day 5
Enjoy exploring the north Devon coast and the wilds of Exmoor today. We’ll drive a loop that takes in the medieval village of Dunster, Porlock, and Porlock Weir, as well as the lovely wooded heights and river valleys of Exmoor. Highlights will include ancient clapper and horse-cart bridges, pretty village greens and churches (such as St. Petrock’s, Parracombe), and picturesque tearooms and pubs.
day 6
Those who wish may explore the coast by boat this morning. Other options include hiking on the coastal path and exploring the area around Watersmeet and the Valley of the Rocks; or riding the steam-powered West Somerset Railway, making stops in historic villages and stations. We’ll enjoy our last overnight in Lynton.
day 7
Today we’ll enter Cornwall – England’s far southwest. We’ll visit several lovely towns, villages, and churches en route: Morwenstow, St. Mawgan, and Launceston. We’ll arrive in Cornwall’s “country town” – Truro, where we’ll spend the next three nights. Truro is the ideal base for exploring Cornwall – connected to Falmouth and lovely villages along the Tresillion River by footpaths and a water-bus. Truro is a lovely small city in its own right, containing Georgian residences, pretty alley-ways, and the cathedral for Cornwall.
day 8
Local touring today: We’ll visit Falmouth, ride the ferry to St. Mawes (where our bus will meet us), and explore parts of the Roseland Peninsula, before returning to Truro.
day 9
Those who wish may explore the far west of Cornwall – including Land’s End, St. Ives, and lovely St. Michael’s Mount – a beautiful island “estate” featuring gardens, castle, and village. Return to Truro for the overnight.
day 10
Today we will drive back in the direction of London. Along the way, we will visit the Lost Garden of Heligan. We will spend our last overnight in the city of Winchester. Those who wish may visit the famous cathedral.
day 11
