We will travel to the beautiful, historic town of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, overlooking the upper Potomac River, just miles from the Antietam National Battlefield. Locally-based professional guides will take us to a number of intriguing sites in the immediate area: South Mountain, Antietam, Harper’s Ferry, and Shepherdstown (all making up the battles of “the Maryland Campaign”).
Highlights of the trip will include
• a comprehensive study of the Battle of Antietam, through guided visits to related sites
• accommodations in the Bavarian Inn, perched on a bluff above the Potomac River, and walking distance from Shepherdstown’s quaint downtown; excellent dining venues
• the opportunity to explore the beautiful towns of Shepherdstown and Harper’s Ferry
itinerary:
Thursday, April 8: Depart Spartanburg (Wofford College); drive to Shepherdstown, WV; check in, followed by dinner at the Bavarian Inn
Friday, April 9: guided touring of the Battle of South Mountain / Crampton’s Gap; lunch at the historic South Mountain Inn; Boonsboro; touring of the Antietam National Battlefield; dinner in Shepherdstown
Saturday, April 10: guided touring of Harper’s Ferry; lunch and free time in Harper’s Ferry; touring of the Battle of Shepherdstown; free time and dinner in the area
Sunday, April 11: morning departure for return trip to Wofford College; arrival in the early evening
cost: $749 / person (double occupancy; single supplement, $250); cost includes motorcoach transportation; 3 nights accommodations at the Bavarian Inn, Shepherdstown, WV; 3 breakfast buffets; 3 lunches; 3 dinners; guide services; all entrances / admissions; cost does not include one lunch in Harper’s Ferry.
