Trip Description

Our other autumn-at-its-peak trip offers a similar explorer’s vibe to West Virginia – but it’s closer to home.  We’ll return to the Glen Ella Springs Inn – connected to a remarkable history of tourists and visitors discovering Northeast Georgia in two post-Civil War waves – and occupying the most “authentic” setting of any inn in our line-up!

Glen Ella Springs is loosely connected to the “discovery” of the famed Sautee-Nacoochee Valley to the west, featuring the best Native American mounds and vestiges in the Southern Appalachians.  The Springs are also connected to the construction of the Tallulah Falls Railroad at the turn of the 20th century.

From our base at Glen Ella Springs, we’ll traipse through beautiful hill-and-dale countryside, and along parts of Lake Rabun, as we track down natural beauty (Minnehaha Falls, Yonah Mountain), and preserved history – Sautee village, the Hardman Farm, and vestiges of the now-dismantled Tallulah Falls Railroad.  We’ll enjoy breakfasts and dinners at the inn; and a wonderful back yard to walk, or to gather at the firepit!
