Trip Description
The International Storytelling Festival is one great time in beautiful East Tennessee! The festival itself features Jonesborough – East Tennessee’s prettiest town – against a backdrop of early autumn color; fun, inspiring storytellers from far and near; punctuated by the occasional train whistle from the historic Virginia and East Tennessee Railroad. We’ll spend time at the festival on Saturday and Sunday (which honors “sacred stories”).
We’ll make our home for two nights, in one of Explore Up Close’s favorite hotels in the Southeast – the General Morgan Inn in Greeneville, TN. On Friday (first day of the trip) enjoy Greeneville’s lovely Main Street: we’ll walk with a local guide to hear about President Andrew Johnson (and we’ll visit his home); and the final hours of Confederate cavalry commander, General John Hunt Morgan, and other notable architecture – like the lovely Cumberland Presbyterian Church ( . . . Say, is that a cannon ball embedded to the right of the door?!). Enjoy great companionship, beautiful places, and an uplifting experience!
