Trip Description

Let’s explore the fascinating “borders” beyond the Tugaloo River—the border between South Carolina and Georgia and the heart of ancient Cherokee lands.  Today, it’s a Piedmont-meets-mountains region, where folkways (including a strong pottery tradition) documented in the famous Foxfire series of the 1960s share the stage with deep river-cut gorges, “mission schools,” and lovely mountain lakes.

Our home for two nights will explore these features, plus a strong culinary element.  With roots as stagecoach inn from the 1870s, the Glen Ella Springs Inn occupies a lovely bucolic setting and features quiet acreage, stretching to a firepit and creekside perch.  The inn’s chef offers delicious breakfasts and sumptuous dinners, in a fine bed-and-breakfast tradition.
