Trip Description

Join us to explore North Carolina’s Far West—making the historic Tapoco Lodge our base for three nights.  [Did you know that North Carolina had a Far West?  Well, I coined that term, but it applies.  From the Tapoco Lodge in Graham County, NC, there are a handful of other state capitals closer than Raleigh, and it’s over 500 miles from there to NC’s Far East of the Outer Banks.]  Part of the allure of this area is the light human touch on it all.  There is the chain of Alcoa / TVA lakes and historic hydro-electricity dams which hint at the region’s past, but it remains a quiet corner of the Southern Appalachians.
