France's Sublime Southwest: Prehistory, Hanging Gardens, and Wine!
September 30 – October 9, 2018
Our small group will fly in and out of Bordeaux, then take to the backroads to explore a fabulously rich countryside, and some of the prettiest villages in the world. Our itinerary will take us to St. Emilion – famous for its wines and all-around charm; and to areas within idyllic Perigord – featuring “hanging gardens and villages,” perched high above the Dordogne and Vezere Valleys, and fascinating prehistoric sites and stories.
Highlights of the trip will include touring “caves” in the vineyards around St. Emilion; visits to prehistoric sites, including “Lascaux II;” and the sensual otherworldliness of some of the world’s most beautiful gardens. All complemented by charming hotels, backroads drives, and the adventure of discovery. Our multi-night stays will be in or near the villages of St. Emilion, Brantome – framed by the Dronne River, and Domme – one of France’s most beautiful villages, perched high above the Dordogne River. Each of these idyllic sun-washed villages is a highlight in its own right.
Trip Price: $3669 / person (double occupancy; single supplement, $750). Price includes private van transportation, 8 nights accommodation with breakfast in 3- and 4-star hotels and inns, all touring (including wine tastings), 4 lunches and 4 dinners. Price does not include other meals, alcohol, trip insurance, optional activities.
Chumley’s take: “Southwestern France is a magical landscape. Within the region there are too many ‘most beautiful villages of France’ to actually visit on one trip. Don’t worry – we’ll plan others.”
Inns of Distinction will be featured on this trip!
