South Carolina Sandhills Discovery Tour
March 7 – 9, 2019
Secrets in the High Hills: Bring Your Sense of Adventure to Uncover Some of South Carolina’s Best Stories . . . On Location.
The South Carolina Sandhills. That might be a new term for some of our explorers. Join us on a tour of discovery that takes us to the center of the state – a region that is marked by high sand dunes, piled up by the ocean, around 20 million years ago. Our adventure will feature terrific South Carolina stories, meet-ups with local authorities, and places of special – and often “covered-over” – beauty. We’ll make the town of Sumter our headquarters; we’ll delve into secrets in Sumter, Clarendon, and Kershaw Counties. Themes will range from the Revolutionary War, to the Cotton Kingdom era, to Civil Rights; and will feature lovely architecture, stunning settings, and local story-tellers emerging from the woodwork.
- South Carolina Revolutionary heroes, Francis Marion and Thomas Sumter
- Historic Boykin, SC – home of the Boykin Spaniel, and one of the state’s most unique restaurants
- Homes, churches, and stories of the Santee High Hills
- SC Civil Rights heroes
Trip price: $879 / person (double occupancy; single supplement, $125); price is all-inclusive except for alcohol and optional trip insurance.
Chumley’s take: This Trip of Discovery will bring us up close and personal with some of the state’s best stories. And if you think the description above is more than the tip of the tip of the iceberg, you’re going to be surprised (in the best kind of way).
