Exploring Historic Charleston: From the Ashley River Plantations to Church Street Homes

April 10 – 12, 2019

Explore Private Homes on Illustrious Church Street – this year’s Festival of Houses and Gardens

Visit Charleston during its quintessential spring event that keeps drawing us back for more - the 72nd Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens.  We’ll visit private homes on Church Street (my personal favorite street in the historic district), and hear gospel music by the Plantation Singers.  And we’ll round out our downtown touring with an Ashley River adventure, and free time to explore on your own.

Trip highlights:

  • Visit private houses and gardens on beautiful Church Street, and learn about their distinctive architecture and history
  • Ashley River exploration and visits, including Middleton Place and Drayton Hall plantations
  • The Plantation Singers Celebration at the Circular Church
  • Delicious Lowcountry dining and delightful lodging

Trip price:  $1195 / person (double occupancy; single supplement, $260); price includes comfortable van transportation; 2 nights lodging and breakfast in the Francis Marion Hotel; all touring per the itinerary; 3 lunches and 1 dinner.  Price does not include 1 dinner, alcohol, or optional trip insurance.

Chumley’s take:  Charleston is like a hidden world of private homes and gardens . . . and now we have the key!
