The Scenic Route To The Greenbrier
September 10 – 13, 2019
Prettiest Driving Route in the Southeast
Small group adventure along the prettiest backroads in the Southeast! Backbone Rock, Burke’s Garden, the outback of Pocahontas County . . . it’s a highlight reel. We’ll spend our first night in Abingdon, Virginia, one of the Old Dominion’s prettiest towns and the home of the acclaimed Barter Theatre. We’ll then drive the ridge and valley to Crab Orchard, pass Salt Sulphur Springs, and arrive at the storied Greenbrier – where we’ll spend two nights. We’ll enjoy ample time at the Greenbrier to take the guided tour of the bunker, visit cottage row and the Greenbrier’s own historic exhibits, or simply to have tea and let it all sink in.
- Enjoy meals and accommodations at the Martha Washington Inn (1 night, Abingdon), and at the Greenbrier (2 nights)
- Barter Theatre evening show
- The intriguing Crab Orchard Museum / driving tour of Burke’s Garden
- Exploration of now-defunct West Virginia springs – Salt Sulphur and Blue Sulphur
Trip price: $1545 / person (double occupancy; single supplement, $400); price includes comfortable van transportation; accommodation for one night at the Martha Washington Inn (Abingdon, VA), and for two nights at the Greenbrier Resort (White Sulphur Springs, WV); three lunches and two dinners; all touring and activities per the itinerary. Price does not include one lunch, one dinner, alcohol, or optional trip insurance.
Chumley’s take: One of my favorite trips on the calendar! Can’t wait for everyone to hear the story of the Varmint, on location in Southwest Virginia.
