Exploring the Scottish Highlands

September 21 – 30, 2019

Takin’ the High Road:  From Speyside and the Moray Firth to a Victorian Hunting Estate in Stunning Wester Ross

This adventure will take us to northern Scotland – from the Spey River Valley and Inverness to the remarkable mountains-meet-the-sea world of Wester Ross.

After flying into Inverness, we'll explore Speyside, and the magical world of castles, estates, and villages of the Cairngorm Mountains and National Park.  Those who wish will have the opportunity to learn about Scotch whisky – Speyside is the most prolific distiller in all of Scotland.  For a new perspective on this stunning country, enjoy a ride on the scenic Strathspey Steam Railway.  We’ll then relocate to Dingwall – our jumping off point to explore the lovely villages along the Cromarty and Dornoch Firths, and the battlefield at Culloden Moor, where the Jacobite Uprising of 1745 officially ended.  We’ll continue moving west, into the stunning mountains and sea of the Northwest Highlands – Wester Ross, and the villages along the sea lochs of Gairloch, Ewe, and Gruinard Bay. We'll find dramatic scenery, traditional fishing villages, and warm local hospitality. Those who wish can join a whale-watching excursion.  At the end of each day, relax at our Victorian hunting lodge-turned-hotel in front of a roaring fire.  Ahhh.
