The Rise And Fall Of Presidential Aspirations In Georgia

The month of November is the best under-the-radar time to explore Georgia’s vast outback. Temperatures are approaching perfect, fall color hangs in the air, and fields of white – cotton on the boll – turn select vistas spectacular! Our backroads exploration will track down some of Georgia’s most illustrious moments with Presidents, and somewhat likeminded brethren. We’ll spend our first two nights at the lovely Lodge at Callaway Gardens – close to FDR’s famous Warm Springs Little White House and Rehabilitation Center. We’ll relocate to one of EUC’s favorite hotel experiences – the Windsor Hotel in Americus. Nearby is the Plains, Georgia, home of President James Earl Carter and wife, Rosalynn. After driving through some of the South’s prettiest cotton country, we’ll spend our last night in the midst of classic antebellum presidential and political history. Stories and site visits will feature Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home, the site of Willington Academy – proving ground for a generation of southern President-wannabes, and the May 1865 capture site of Jefferson Davis.
