North Carolina's Sublime Mountain Retreats
October 20 - 23, 2020
Spruce Pine | Penland | Roan Mountain | Burnsville
Vistas, Architecture, Scenic Drives, And Secret Stories, In Autumn’s Glow
Let’s explore the North Carolina mountains by small group, featuring up close encounters with painted vistas, locally-sourced stories on tap, and mountain retreats – a term intended to loosely describe a range of cozy mountain residences and retreats, called “home” by some, over the years. Our exploration will take us along the North and South Toe River valleys, and to the summits of Mt. Mitchell and Carver’s Gap – on the upper shoulder of Roan Mountain. We’ll explore parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the quaint mountain settlements of Burnsville, Penland, Bakersville, Spruce Pine, Crossnore, and Linville. We’ll learn stories about the railroad, mining, and native crafts. And we’ll enjoy the hospitality of a mountain bed and breakfast (an historic mountain retreat, itself) for three nights. This will be a capstone adventure in local history and beautiful, fascinating places…and you’re invited!
