Two Classic Mountain Coves

September 23 – 25, 2020

the lovely Oak Hill on Love Lane Inn  |  Cataloochee Cove  |  Bethel Cove  |   the high Blue Ridge Parkway  |  Inman Chapel  |  Judiculla Rock

Join us for parts of three days in North Carolina’s Balsam Mountains and the surrounding region.  We’ll enjoy accommodations in the highly rated and very private Oak Hill on Love Lane Inn (Waynesville).  The inn features lovely outdoor spaces, from the front porch, to the garden, to the firepit on a lower level of the front yard, overlooking Waynesville.  Most of our meals (including picnic lunches) will originate from the talented hands of Anna Kitzis, owner of the inn.  We’ll explore two of Western North Carolina’s most interesting and beautiful valleys.  Cataloochee Cove lies in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and contains a herd of elk, and several period buildings, unused on a regular basis since the 1950’s (including a school and a church).  The Bethel Valley, lying just south of Waynesville, contains the site of the logging village of Sunburst, and the legacies of the Inman family made famous in Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain.  Our drives to and from the area will reveal several outstanding stories and stunning landscapes.
